Rex served as chairman of the drive in 1990 which exceeded its goal of $180,000.00. Rex initiated the name change from the Mecosta County Area United Way to include Osceola County, which had been a long-time contributor and beneficiary, which did not have its name included. This resulted in substantial growth in Osceola County fundraising in the following years.

Big Rapids Area Community Foundation

The Schuberg Agency is a cornerstone member of the Foundation. This designation was the result of contributions made during the start-up of the organization. In 2002, Rex completed a drive to raise $10,000.00 to start the Linda Willette Class of 1974 scholarship fund. The interest from this fund will go to a Big Rapids High School senior in the form of a scholarship honoring the memory of Linda. The Willette family and the class members of 1974 made this possible.

Mecosta County 4-H

Rex raised a steer his senior year in high school, which he named Sir Loin. While learning a valuable lesson in animal husbandry, he has returned the favor by helping local 4-H students with his support of the Annual 4-H Auction at the Mecosta County Area Fair.
